Volunteers and Chaperones

The Morongo Unified School District is requiring parent volunteers and field trip chaperones to have a current TB Test and fingerprinting done. Information packets can be obtained in the ONES school office. Volunteers and chaperones will be reimbursed up to $80 after 20 hours of volunteer work in the classroom or two field trips.

On the Road to No Excsues University

Onaga Elementary School is on the road to become a member of the "No Excuses University."  The No Excuses University (NEU), is a network of elementary, middle, and junior high schools across the United States. These schools actively promote a comprehensive model of college readiness to all students the moment they begin elementary school.

Every No Excuses University has a well-defined process for identifying and creating the following exceptional systems: 1) Culture of Universal Achievement,  2) Collaboration,  3) Standards Alignment,  4)  Assessment,  5) Data Analysis, and 6)  Interventions.

At Onaga, we take student safety and good student behavior very seriously.  We only have six rules, but these rules apply ALL the time students are on campus, to and from school, or on a school-sponsored field trip.  School staff members, students, and parents all share responsibility for good student behavior.  A very important part of NEU is a consistent disciplinary program.  As such, ONES adheres to the Character Counts philosophy.  This is mirrored in the No Excuses “Code of Conduct.”  This code states: I will be trustworthy, I will be respectful, I will be responsible, I will be fair, I will be caring, and I will be a good citizen.

Red Ribbon Kick-Off

Mayor George Huntington opened "Red Ribbon Weeks" by giving a synopsis of how Red Ribbon Week started.  He then lead the entire student body in a "Say No to Drugs" pledge.  At the end of the opening celebration, Mayor Huntington presented Student Leadership adviser Barb Smith with an official proclamation which declared October 23-31, 2011, as Red Ribbon Week in the Town of Yucca Valley.
